Illinois State Police Trooper Apprehends Fatal Hit & Run Offender 28 Miles From I-90 Accident Scene

Boone County – Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run accident that occurred early Monday morning at approximately 6:46 a.m., on I-90 eastbound at milepost 25 in Boone County.

A District 15 Trooper was dispatched to check on a reported stranded white pickup truck that was on the right shoulder of I-90 eastbound at milepost 25. Upon arrival, the trooper located a male victim, 45 years of age, with life threatening injuries, outside of the pickup truck.

According to a witness on the scene, the victim was struck by a semi-truck with the words “Graphic Arts” marked outside the semi-truck.  Based on the eyewitness’ description of the semi-truck, another District 15 Trooper immediately responded and actively searched for the vehicle.  The trooper located the 2002 Brown Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi Trailer approximately 28 miles from the accident scene, shortly thereafter.  The fleeing offender was stopped and arrested at toll Plaza 9, eastbound in the vicinity of Elgin.

“The trooper was able to immediately apprehend the fleeing tractor trailer because of the descriptive information provided by the eyewitness,” said District 15 Commander Lt. Luis Gutierrez.

Part of Interstate 90 remains closed.

The matter remains under investigation and charges are pending.

THE PUBLIC IS REMINDED THAT ALL ARRESTED PERSONS ARE MERELY ACCUSED OF THE CHARGES AGAINST THEM AND ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
