SPRINGFIELD, IL -The Illinois State Police (ISP) and Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced that again this year several ISP firing ranges will be open to the public for the purpose of sighting in shotguns. With deer hunting season around the corner, ISP and DNR officers will open the ranges to the public on Saturday, October 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The open range program affords the public a safe place to sight in their guns in the presence of firearms experts who can assist with any questions or problems.
The public is asked to call one of the 17 statewide ranges (listed below) before October 28 to make a reservation. Targets will be provided, and there is no charge for use of the range. The public is also reminded that a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card is required, and in order to legally transport a firearm, the gun must be unloaded and enclosed in a case.
