LETR Kick-Off 2020

The 2020 LETR Kickoff hosted on January 31, 2020 promises to be the best to date, providing a more interactive and exciting experience to all attendees. A variety of sessions will be offered, covering topics from fundraising best practices, athlete engagement, working with individuals with disabilities, social media engagement, and much more! This is also a unique opportunity to network with Torch Run officers throughout the state! All law enforcement personnel are invited to attend. Polar Plunge 2020

The 2020 Polar Plunge season will run from Saturday, February 15 through Sunday, March 22. Registration is scheduled to open on Monday, November 11th. All proceeds collected by plungers benefit the 23,000 traditional athletes and 17,000 Young Athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. For more information: SOILL Polar Plunge

The Plane Pull

The Plane Pull is the ultimate tug-of-war competition as teams compete to pull an aircraft 12 feet as quickly as possible. Awards are given to the fastest pull in each division, fastest pull overall and top fundraising team.

Local woman heads to UAE as part of the Special Olympics Torch Run

Diane VanderKooy was a young Illinois State Police trooper in 1990 when she attended her first Special Olympics event in Bloomington. She was drawn to a powerlifter - VanderKooy was also a powerlifter at that time - whose lift had whipped the Illinois Summer Games crowd into a lather.     Full Story from SJ-R
