Police Investigating Several Leads
CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the southbound shoulder of 59th Street at approximately 4:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
State troopers responded to a call of shots fired on the Dan Ryan in the vicinity of the 55th Street exit. Police arrived at the scene and discovered a blue 2005 Dodge Caravan located on the shoulder of the southbound lane of 59th Street. Police observed the female driver of the Dodge Caravan, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. One female passenger was inside the vehicle, and it was later learned that a male passenger fled the scene on foot.
The female victim has been identified by family members as Jasmine Curry, 24, of Chicago.
The southbound local lanes from 55th to 59th Street will remain closed while police investigate the matter. The entrance ramp to the Chicago Skyway is open from 59th Street at this time. Traffic is being diverted into the express lanes at 47th Street.
At this time, no motive has been determined and the investigation continues. The female passenger is cooperating with police.
The ISP has also obtained surveillance video and is working with the Chicago Police Department to locate the male passenger who fled the scene. Police have a description of the offending vehicle and are following up on several leads.
