Chicago – On Sunday, June 22, 2014, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago Troopers responded to a shooting that occurred on I-94 southbound near 71st Street. Preliminary information revealed that a 2004 Volvo XC90 SUV was traveling in the left lane when a 2006 Infinity M35 traveling in the middle lane shot at the Volvo, striking it multiple times.
Following the shooting, the Infinity exited the expressway near 87th Street where Chicago Police officers were able to stop the vehicle. A female passenger was taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle, Dantrel K. Fuller, 21, of Chicago was subsequently located by Chicago Police and taken into custody. A firearm was recovered near the scene.
As a result of the shooting, the Volvo sideswiped a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV near 79th Street forcing that vehicle to crash into the wall. A male driver and sole occupant of the Volvo suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. The male driver of the Honda was the only occupant of the vehicle.
At this time, no motive has been determined and the investigation continues.
Fuller was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, additional charges are pending. The matter remains under investigation.
