CHICAGO, IL - At approximately 6:10 a.m., a female pedestrian, age 25, was struck by a Toyota truck on I-290 eastbound west of 25th Ave. According to a witness statement, the female subject was walking in a marked median area, east of Manheim Road, when the driver of the Toyota truck crossed the median area and struck the victim. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The driver has been charged with violating the restricted median. Earlier in the morning at 3:23 a.m., the female subject was pulled over for driving in the wrong direction on I-290. The victim refused a breathalyzer test and failed the field sobriety tests. She was arrested and bonded out at the Westchester Police Department at approximately 5:40 a.m. At the time of her release, the female subject was alert. She stated that she had no family or means of transportation and requested a ride to a nearby gas station. Based on this reasonable request, as a courtesy, the ISP Trooper transported the female subject to the gas station. Investigators are in the process of locating video surveillance from the gas station and attempting to locate next of kin. Anyone with any information is urged to contact ISP at 1-847-294-4400. |
