"The Illinois State Police does not encourage, tolerate, or condone the use of racial profiling at any level. As a leader, I expect myself and my command staff to treat the public with professionalism and respect," ISP Director Hiram Grau stated in response to the UIC Illinois Traffic Stops Study released this week. "As Director of the Illinois State Police, I am committed to completing a thorough review of the data so that we fairly and accurately examine the results. The public and our hard-working, dedicated Troopers deserve nothing less. We will also continue to bolster our training practices and safety awareness with a renewed focus on diversity and cross cultural training." Director Grau stressed that a comprehensive review of the data takes time to analyze and expressed appreciation to the citizens of Illinois for their patience. The Illinois State Police expects to release the results within the coming weeks. |
