| SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois State Police (ISP) will join law enforcement agencies across the nation in three enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing highway crashes and fatalities this Thanksgiving holiday. The Click It or Ticket Campaign (November 24 - December 7) and America Buckles Up Children (Operation ABC) Mobilization (November 24 - 30) promote the use of safety belts and child restraint systems, and Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), a traffic safety initiative aimed to reduce the three causes of highway fatalities: speeding, impaired driving, and failure to use occupant restraints (November 27 - 30).
"During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Illinois State Police will assign officers to special emphasis patrols to look for motorists who are driving impaired, not wearing safety belts, and committing other traffic violations," said ISP Director Larry G. Trent. "Troopers will also be assigned to various details including safety belt enforcement zones, roadside safety and airspeed checks, aggressive driving patrols, and lidar speed details in addition to regular patrols."
Last year 21 persons lost their lives as a result of 19 fatal crashes over the five-day holiday period. |
