| SPRINGFIELD -- Governor Rod Blagojevich officially introduced the Illinois Integrated Justice Information System Strategic Plan 2003-2004 that calls for the integration of state, county, and local justice information systems throughout Illinois. Integrating the flow of information throughout Illinois criminal justice system will allow critical data needed by police officers, prosecutors, and judges to be shared electronically. Increased information sharing will improve decision-making, raise the quality of justice, enhance public safety and security, and, with the proper safeguards, ensure the privacy and confidentiality of the people of Illinois. The task will now be to address the primary challenges to justice information integration outlined in the plan. These include the establishment of standards for data sharing and infrastructure development, adequate security requirements for interagency data transfers, privacy protections to prevent unauthorized disclosures of subject records, and strategies for rapid identification of subjects through biometric technologies.
