SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois State Police (ISP), in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources, will once again open several firing ranges to the public for the purpose of sighting in shotguns. With deer hunting season around the corner, several ranges will be open on Saturday, October 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to a scheduling conflict, the District 7 (East Moline) range will be open on Saturday, October 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"In an ever increasing effort to promote safety among firearm owners, the open range program provides an opportunity for shotguns to be checked in a safe environment with firearms experts present, thereby ensuring safe and appropriate use of firearms," said ISP Director Sam W. Nolen. "Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Officers will also assist at each range facility," he added.
The public is asked to call one of the ranges listed below before the scheduled date to make a reservation. Targets will be provided, and there is no charge for use of the range. The public is reminded that they must possess a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, and in order to legally transport a firearm, the gun must be unloaded and enclosed in a case.
