SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) reminds motorists to use extra caution this Sunday when attending Super Bowl festivities. ISP officers will be assigned to patrols throughout the weekend with an emphasis on alcohol-related offenses.
ISP Director Sam W. Nolen said, “Be responsible this weekend if you host a Super Bowl party. Serve non-alcoholic beverages, ask someone to be a designated driver for those who choose to drink, or call a taxi service. When necessary, take the car keys from partygoers – don’t let your guests drive drunk.”
Motorists can assist the ISP in reducing drunk driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities by following these preventive measures:
Don’t drink and drive.
Designate a sober driver if attending a party.
Call a friend, family member, or taxi for a ride if you have been drinking.
If you observe an erratic driver while traveling, stay behind the vehicle and out of harm’s way. If it’s safe to do so, pull over and call 911 or alert the local police, providing a detailed description of the vehicle and its direction of travel.
