SPRINGFIELD, IL–The Illinois State Police (ISP) would like to remind motorists to use extra caution when attending Super Bowl festivities. ISP officers will conduct patrols throughout the weekend with an emphasis on alcohol-related offenses.
ISP Director Sam W. Nolen said, "If you plan to host a Super Bowl party, be responsible. Serve non-alcoholic beverages and encourage those who drink to have a designated driver. If necessary, take the car keys from partygoers and don’t let them drive drunk."
Motorists can assist the ISP in reducing drunk driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities by following these preventive measures:
Don’t drink and drive Use a designated driver if attending a party. Call a friend or family member for a ride if you have been drinking. If you observe an erratic driver while traveling, stay behind the vehicle and out of harm’s way. If it’s safe to do so, pull over and call 911 or alert the local police, providing a detailed description of the vehicle and its location. |
