Uniform Crime Report Updates 2010 - July through December
December 21, 2010 Update
The state-wide training initiative addressing the revisions to the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting Program reporting guidelines continues. The January schedule can be found in the attachment below. The required training registration form can be found in the September 24, 2010 update. There will be no scheduled training dates in the month of February; however, training will resume in March.
The state-wide training initiative addressing the revisions to the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting (I-UCR) Program reporting guidelines that were effective January 2010 continues. Dates and locations of training in October through December and the required registration form can be found in the attachments below. By the end of October, training will have been provided to over 750 personnel from close to 400 agencies; however, there continues to be a significant number of agencies who have not attended training that are still submitting data on discontinued forms without application of the revised guidelines. This data cannot be accepted, and must be re-submitted using the appropriate forms and guidelines and submission method. Agencies are strongly encouraged to register personnel responsible for I-UCR reporting. Questions concerning training may be directed to the I-UCR Program at 217/557-6482.
The Department of Justice, Bureau of
Justice Assistance, recently requested that the Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI) once again allow
local law enforcement agencies to submit past years’ index
crime data. The FBI has agreed to the request, and
Illinois law enforcement agencies who have not done
so, may convert and submit index
crime statistics to the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting
(I-UCR) Program for the reporting years of 2006, 2007,
and 2008. The conversion results in federally-compliant
UCR statistics, which are required for eligibility
in applying for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant (JAG) funding. Many Illinois agencies submitted
converted statistics over the past year for 2006 through
2008, and do not need to resubmit these statistics.
This second opportunity will afford agencies who did
not elect to convert and submit previous statistics
to do so, achieving eligibility to apply for JAG funding
in FY11. The document below provides detailed information
on this initiative.
The Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting (I-UCR) Program reporting guidelines were revised and went into effect January 2010 as announced through numerous direct communications to law enforcement agencies as well as being posted on the I-UCR website. Over 500 agencies are not submitting data on the modified forms or applying the revised guidelines. This data cannot be accepted, and must be re-submitted using the appropriate forms and guidelines which can be found at the bottom of this website. Training is being conducted throughout the state to assist agencies in transitioning to the revised guidelines. Dates and locations of training through September are listed in the attachment below. The required class registration form is also provided below. Additional training sites will be selected for the remainder of 2010, including locations in the southern region of the state, all of which will be posted on the I-UCR website. Agencies interested in hosting a training session may contact the I-UCR Program at 217/557-6482.
